#SEEINGBLUE: RAISE YOUR VOICE, NOT THE SEA LEVEL!
In 2014, the SIDS Youth AIMS Hub (SYAH) and the Global Shapers Port Louis Hub, with the support of Indian Ocean Commission, ENL Foundation and Reef Conservation, jointly organized a nationwide competition for youth, entitled ‘#SeeingBlue: Youth Vision for the Ocean’ to mark World Environment Day 2014 and WorldOceans Day 2014. Entries were received in the form of essays, short stories, videos, artworks, a poem and a song.
Since then, #SeeingBlue has resulted in spin-offs such as multi-stakeholder interactive dialogues on ocean and one-on- one interactions with the fishermen community.
#SeeingBlue: Rann Nu Lamer so Vre Kuler
#SeeingBlue in 2015 had as theme "Rann Nu Lamer so Vre Kouler (“Give the Ocean its Colours Back”). The main aim was to raise awareness on the causes and symptoms of one of the biggest ocean of our time: marine debris.
With a growing interest in making it a project based competition,a call for projects was launched in June. The competition had three components: (a) the Young Ocean Champions (YOCs) Award, a competition for impactful ocean solutions among youth (b) a capacity-building component (c) the creation of a safe space for dialogue for inclusive discussions on the future of ocean development in Mauritius.
In August 2016, the Seeing Blue Team organized its first boot camp to empower the ocean champions.
